Get involved with Virgin Sport and the local host city community! It takes a village to make our events incredible, and everyone is welcome to join us. There are lots of roles available during the race and street party experience, so there is something to suit everyone. Examples of roles include...

Help Desk Volunteer
Help Desk Volunteers ensure runners are ready to tackle their events by issuing replacement race packs and answering any queries from both runners and spectators. You’ll need to be confident using a laptop.

Information / Arrivals Marshal
Welcome the runners and show them the red-hot Virgin spirit right from the start by ensuring they know where to drop their bags and how to get to the start. Being vocal is key here! You’ll also assist runners and spectators with any event related questions they may have.

Volunteer Reception Assistant
Guide your fellow volunteers through the check-in process by signing them in, confirming their role and responsibilities, and providing them with all necessary equipment.

Start Volunteer
You’ll be at the start, helping runners find their correct timing pen and spectators are not able to enter the enter, while ensuring the area around you is kept clean and tidy.

Finish Volunteer
You will be poised on the finish line to congratulate the runners as they complete the race, encourage them into the rewards area and able to call on medics should help be required.

Rewards Volunteer
Be one of the first to congratulate each runner crossing the finish line by awarding them their medals and handing out water, swag bags, and other delightful surprises.

Event Cyclist
As a Sweep Cyclist, you’ll cheer on the runners from the rear of the pack while providing on-the-ground support for Event Control. Lead cyclists lead from the front, cycling alongside our elite runners!

Schools’ Challenge Marshal
You’ll assist with signing in the schools and ensuring they get to the start in their group.

Course Marshal
Be on the front lines of the course as you marshal a section of the route. We’ll provide your sign-in station closer to the event. Your assigned section could be up to 1.5 miles away from where you check in so be sure your feet are ready for the haul.

Entertainment Volunteer
Be on the front lines of the course as you’ll be meeting a band, ensuring they set up in the right place and have everything they need. You’ll be the link in to event control, keeping our Entertainment Manager up to date.

If you can pull together a group of 15-20 then we’d love to talk to you about manning a water station or helping in our baggage area as a team!

Yes! If you can pull together a group of 15-20 then we’d love to talk to you about manning a water station or helping in our baggage area as a team.

Volunteers must be 13 or older on event day.

FREE ENTRY: In return for giving us your time, we will give you a free entry into a Virgin Sport event within one year. After completing your volunteer shift, we will be in touch asking you to pick the event you’d like to take part in. You can gift this to a friend if you wish. Alternatively, we offer groups a donation of £150.

BREAKFAST: We’ll give you a good breakfast to kick start your day. Drinks and snacks will also be available to keep you going.

CAP: You’ll get to keep an event branded cap as a souvenir of your day.

THE EXPERIENCE: Volunteering is a great way to be involved in a large community event, experience the event from behind the scenes, support family and friends who are running and meet new people.  You’ll have a great day, we promise!

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a confirmation email. We’ll then keep you up to date with latest news about the event and in the week or two before the event we will invite you to our volunteer briefing evening. Attendance is not compulsory, however we would strongly encourage you to attend, as it’s a great way to meet the Virgin Sport team and your fellow volunteers. You’ll be given an overview of the event and then a briefing on your specific race day role. There’ll be an opportunity to ask questions too.

Following the briefing you’ll receive an email with your role-specific and the general event briefing notes. Make sure you have a read over these before the day, so you can let us know if you have any questions.

On the day you will check in, have breakfast and then receive a detailed briefing from your team leader.
